You must have seen social media posts and stories flooded with millions of Indians feeling pride, and why not! PV Sindhu stole the show with a dominating win of Gold. She became the very first Indian Shuttler to win BWF World Championship Gold.
“After two silvers, I finally became a world champion. I waited for this Victory for a Long Time.” – PV Sindhu
PV Sindhu crushed higher-ranked Nozomi Okuhara in straight games in the women’s singles final to win the elusive gold in her third successive final.
The 38 minutes game was an easy-win for Sindhu, as she says. It was a 21-7, 21-7 victory just 36 points later. The player has proved herself as she was in no mood for silver this time.
"This is my answer to people who have asked questions over and over. I just wanted to answer with my racket and with this win — that's all," PV Sindhu said after becoming the first-ever badminton (senior) world champion from India.
Sindhu’s performance was appreciated by Hon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he tweets:
Her recent win is a mouth-shutting answer to those doubting her potentials and asking over and over again that why she could not make it for gold. Besides this greatest win, PV Sindhu is one of the two Indian Badminton Players to ever win an Olympic Medal.
She dedicated this medal to her mother as it was her mother's birthday on the day she won. It was the best birthday gift ever, added her mom.
Thanks for setting new heights with this. We are proud of you & wish you the same enthusiasm for many more wins.
